The Sommerville Springs development was plagued with deficiencies and a fire that required the Town of Stony Plain to issue an order to tear down and clean up 41 structures. The first phase included the demolition of a series of residential fourplexes and duplexes (41 units). Phase 2 included the complete removal of approximately 1,050 deep concrete piles and the regrading of the sites.
Visco crews were just starting the demolition phase when local lockdowns were implemented to reduce transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Fortunately, operators and drivers work in their own vehicles and were able to maintain physical distance. While progress slowed during the early periods of the pandemic, crews continued to work as an essential service without disruption.
The original development of the site drastically modified the natural slope of the property that resulted in retention of surface water. Following the removal of all surface structures and subsurface concrete, a major recontouring and grading of the entire site was necessary.
