The Northlands barns were decommissioned at the Northlands Arena when the racetrack was relocated south of Edmonton. The two-storey row structures consisted of precast concrete roof panels supported by masonry walls; the main floor was concrete slab on grade and the second floor was a suspended concrete slab. The main floors were horse barns and the second floors were dormitory-style quarters for jockeys and staff.
The horse barns were lined with heavy 3-inch wood plank. Over 40,000 linear feet of fir and pine board was reclaimed for reuse. All concrete and metal were recycled.
