The Griesbach community is built on the site of the former Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Griesbach (also known as CFB Edmonton or Griesbach Barracks). Prior to redevelopment, Canada Lands Company, initiated a multi year clean up of more than 50 buildings, 750 Permanent Married Quarters (PMQ) and aging underground utilities.  

Building Demolitions: In 2004/2005, Visco performed the demolition of ASOTU/CFSO Warehouse (D-2), AES/ADO Warehouse (D-3), and Administration Building (J-3). Demolition of Inflammable Stores (D-6) and the Cell Detention Barracks (E-1) followed in 2007. Abatement and demolition of the Seargeant’s Mess (H-13) followed in 2013.  

From Aug 2014 to May 2015, Visco Demolition was Prime Contractor for the abatement and demolition of the QM and Tech Stores (H-18), Kapyong Drill Hall (H-19), HQ and Signal SQN (H-20) and CE Offices, Stores & Workshops (C-1). Visco returned as Prime Contractor in 2020 for the demolition of three PMQ houses (units 239, 240, and 267) and a PMQ garage (L-19).

Underground Utility Removals: Over four construction seasons in 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2016, Visco performed the removals scope of the comprehensive site service tenders for Stages 9, 10a, 10b, 12, 16, 17, 19, 20 & 21B. Underground removals involved the removal and disposal of asbestos-containing water main pipe, asbestos insulated steam and condensation lines, natural gas lines, communications duct lines, sanitary and storm sewers.
